Overview
At OV Surgical, we are proud to help Ontario patients access OHIP-funded total joint replacement surgery in partnership with two of Toronto’s leading academic hospitals: Humber River Health and Mount Sinai Hospital (Sinai Health). This allows patients to receive world-class hip and knee replacement surgery fully covered by OHIP, guided by our streamlined referral pathway, experienced surgical teams, and focus on rapid, safe recovery.
Our program
OV Surgical works in close partnership with Humber River Health and Mount Sinai Hospital to coordinate high-quality, OHIP-covered joint replacement surgery for Ontario residents. Our program is led by Dr. Sebastian Rodriguez-Elizalde, Arthroplasty Lead, who brings extensive expertise in hip and knee reconstruction. Together with our team of arthroplasty surgeons — Dr. Paul Kuzyk, Dr. Oleg Safir, Dr. Jesse Wolfstadt, and Dr. Seper Ekhtiari at Mount Sinai Hospital, and Dr. Sebastian Rodriguez-Elizalde and Dr. Justin Chang at Humber River Health — we provide exceptional, hospital-based surgical care from consultation through recovery.
Why OVS
Our arthroplasty surgeons have decades of combined experience performing hip and knee replacement and are internationally recognized in their field. They have helped lead the development of robotic-assisted knee replacement and the anterior approach for total hip replacement, and have helped establish validated standards for outpatient and rapid-recovery joint replacement care pathways. Our team has optimized perioperative protocols — including post-operative cryotherapy, early mobilization, and accelerated rehabilitation — and we coordinate seamlessly between consultation, surgery, and follow-up care so patients always know what to expect next.
Referrals
OV Surgical’s OHIP program is fed by two distinct hospital referral pathways — Mount Sinai Hospital and Humber River Health — each with its own intake process. Ask your family doctor to refer you through whichever stream is more accessible to you.
Once referred through either stream, our team will contact you promptly to schedule your consultation. We work hard to minimize wait times and provide clear communication throughout your journey.
Referrals are processed through the Hip and Knee Rapid Access Clinic, a centralized intake point for hip and knee arthritis referrals.

Pathway to Care
Ontario residents can access fully OHIP-covered hip and knee replacement through two hospital streams: the Hip and Knee Rapid Access Clinic at Mount Sinai Hospital, or a direct referral to an arthroplasty surgeon’s office at Humber River Health. Your family doctor sends a referral through whichever stream is more accessible (see “How to Refer & Who to Contact” for forms and fax numbers), and our team coordinates your consultation, surgery, and follow-up care.
Before Surgery
Once your consultation is complete and surgery is scheduled, our team supports you through every step of preparation so you feel informed and confident heading into your procedure.
Day of Surgery
Your procedure takes place at an accredited surgical facility with modern equipment and experienced perioperative teams. Every detail is centred on your safety, comfort, and peace of mind.
After Surgery
Recovery begins the moment your surgery ends, and our team stays closely involved throughout. You will receive a personalized rehabilitation plan, post-operative cryotherapy guidance, and clear milestones for your return to daily activities.
